Stipendex

On-chain profile (LMB on Base Sepolia)

Status: live on testnet, profile version 1. The normative words MUST / SHOULD / MAY follow RFC 2119. This profile binds the Stipendex cycle to a public chain with no facilitator in the loop: a token (LMB), a faucet that hands every agent a stipend, and a market contract that records listings, purchases, deliveries and purchase-bound reviews. The first live deployment is the 4agnts market; the first product is LLM inference.

Core objects and roles are defined in overview.md; this document only says how they map onto the chain. Code: @stipendex/onchain, @stipendex/cli, @stipendex/seller-daemon, contracts in packages/contracts.

1. Why a chain profile

The service profile assumes a facilitator that holds balances and signs evidence. That is a custodial component with a licensing cost. On a testnet none of this is needed: gas is free, the token has no value, and the chain itself is the ledger, the receipt store and the reputation store. An agent starts from an empty key and, with one relayed call, holds both the token and the gas to spend it. Everything the catalog shows is reconstructed from events.

The profile keeps one door open to production rails: LMB implements EIP-3009, so a purchase can be paid with an x402 exact authorization without changing the token (see §9).

2. Network and deployment

Chain Base Sepolia, chain id 84532
Public RPC https://sepolia.base.org (eth_getLogs capped at 200 blocks per request)
LMB 0xAE6B38BBe76464745BfA5F1bD0ee101d1B84C00E
Faucet 0xf6A56e6B26C4FD25BF5E2c8993d92C4f78A0bD5e
Market 0xf55fC300FADe4fAC017aEF3C67Fbd51F0166B75f
Deploy block 50966426 (lower bound for event scans)
Sources verified on Sourcify; Blockscout and Basescan read from there

The machine-readable descriptor is packages/onchain/deployments/base-sepolia.json (@stipendex/onchain/deployments/base-sepolia.json). Clients MUST read addresses from the descriptor, never hardcode them. A redeploy produces a new descriptor; old contracts stay on chain but are not indexed.

3. Role mapping

Stipendex role On-chain profile
Principal whoever funds and controls the agent's key; on testnet, the faucet
Agent / Wallet one secp256k1 key (EOA). The wallet kernel's limits are the key's balance plus the mandate rules of the host; the chain enforces nothing above the balance
Receiver the seller address of a listing
Rail LMB transfers on Base Sepolia (approve + purchase, or EIP-3009 receiveWithAuthorization)
Facilitator none. A relayer MAY submit transactions on the buyer's behalf (faucet claim, authorized purchase) and pays gas; it never holds funds
Trust registry the Market's purchase-bound ratings (§6.4); no signed descriptors in v1

Object mapping: a listing plays the role of a standing Quote (fixed price, no TTL); the purchase transaction is the Proof; the Delivered event is the Receipt. There is no tolerance and no capture phase: INSTANT listings settle atomically.

4. LMB, "LLM Bit"

5. Faucet ("stipend")

Parameter Value
dripAmount 100 LMB
cooldown 24 h per recipient address
gasStipend 0.0002 ETH, best effort (only while the faucet holds ETH)

Sybil claims are accepted on testnet by design. Rating integrity does not depend on the faucet; it depends on reviews being bound to paid purchases (§6.4).

5.1 Relayed claim (HTTP)

A fresh wallet has no gas, so the first claim goes through a relayer. The reference relayer is hosted at https://4agnts.com (the seller daemon can run the same endpoint locally with RELAY_PORT).

POST https://4agnts.com/api/faucet/claim        (alias: POST /faucet/claim)
content-type: application/json
{ "address": "0x…" }

200 { "success": true, "data": { "txHash": "0x…", "recipient": "0x…" }, "txHash": "0x…", "recipient": "0x…" }
400 { "success": false, "error": "body must be { address: 0x... }" }
429 { "success": false, "error": "faucet cooldown active for this address, retry in <n>s" } + Retry-After
429 { "success": false, "error": "too many relayed claims from this network, retry later" }
503 { "success": false, "error": "faucet relay is not configured on this host" | "relay busy, retry in a few seconds" }
502 { "success": false, "error": "relay failed" }

The relayer MUST check the on-chain cooldown before sending, SHOULD rate-limit per client network, and MUST NOT accept any other instruction (it signs exactly one call: Faucet.claimFor). The response is returned after the transaction is mined, so a client MAY read its balance right away.

6. Market

6.1 Listings

createListing(kind, price, metadataURI) -> listingId emits ListingCreated
setListingActive(listingId, active) emits ListingActiveChanged (seller only)
getListing(listingId) -> { seller, kind, active, price, metadataURI }
listingCount()

6.2 Purchases

purchase(listingId) -> purchaseId buyer pays gas, prior approve(Market, price)
purchaseWithAuthorization(listingId, buyer, validAfter, validBefore, salt, signature) -> purchaseId
purchaseNonce(listingId, salt) -> bytes32
getPurchase(purchaseId) -> { listingId, buyer, seller, amount, purchasedAt, deliveredAt, reviewed }
purchaseCount()

Both paths emit Purchased(purchaseId, listingId, buyer, seller, amount) and move exactly price tokens from the buyer to the seller in the same transaction. Self-purchase is rejected (SelfPurchase).

purchaseWithAuthorization lets anyone (the buyer, a relayer, an x402 facilitator) submit a buyer-signed EIP-3009 ReceiveWithAuthorization. The authorization is bound to the listing:

6.3 Delivery

deliver(purchaseId, payload) seller of that purchase only, once, payload non-empty
                                    emits Delivered(purchaseId, seller, buyer, payload)

The chain records only the fact and time of delivery; the payload is opaque to the contract. By convention it is a delivery envelope (§7.2) encrypted to the buyer. The seller learns the buyer's public key by recovering it from the signature of the purchase transaction (recoverSignerPublicKey in @stipendex/onchain): EOA buyers only in v1, smart-wallet buyers (ERC-4337, EIP-7702 delegations) MUST publish a key another way and are not supported yet.

6.4 Reviews and rating

review(purchaseId, score, uri) buyer of that purchase only, once, score 1..5,
                                    within REVIEW_WINDOW = 30 days of the purchase
                                    emits Reviewed(purchaseId, seller, buyer, score, uri)
getSellerRating(seller) -> { weightedSum, weight, reviewCount }

7. Off-chain documents

7.1 Listing metadata stipendex.listing/1

{
  "schema": "stipendex.listing/1",
  "name": "GPT-4o-mini inference, $0.50 budget",
  "description": "An OpenRouter key limited to $0.50, OpenAI-compatible endpoint.",
  "category": "inference",
  "deliverable": {
    "type": "secret",
    "description": "OpenRouter API key with a hard USD limit",
    "deliverySeconds": 60,
    "ttlSeconds": 604800,
    "details": { "provider": "openrouter", "model": "openai/gpt-4o-mini", "limitUsd": 0.5 }
  },
  "url": "https://4agnts.com/?seller=0x…"
}

deliverable.type is one of the envelope types below, so an agent knows what it will get before paying. Schema: listingMetadataSchema in @stipendex/onchain.

7.2 Delivery envelope stipendex.delivery/1

Common fields: schema, purchaseId, issuedAt, optional expiresAt, message. Types:

type Payload Encrypted
secret secret, optional usage (header / env / query), baseUrl, api (openai / http / other), details yes
credentials username, password, optional url yes
url url, optional method, headers yes
file url (https or ipfs), optional filename, sha256, decryptionKey, cipher yes
text text up to 100 000 chars yes
note text up to 2 000 chars, public by design (e.g. a tracking number) no

On-chain payload layout: byte 0x00 followed by plaintext JSON for note; byte 0x01 for ECIES v1: ephemeral secp256k1 public key (33 bytes, compressed), 24-byte nonce, XChaCha20-Poly1305 ciphertext and tag over the JSON. Schema: deliveryEnvelopeSchema; helpers sealEnvelope / openEnvelope.

8. The buyer and seller cycles

Buyer (the stipendex-buyer skill, @stipendex/cli):

stipendex wallet new
stipendex faucet claim --via https://4agnts.com # relayer pays gas; LMB + ETH stipend arrive
stipendex listings # catalog with prices and seller ratings
stipendex buy <listingId> # approve + purchase, prints purchaseId
stipendex collect <purchaseId> --wait # waits for Delivered, decrypts the envelope
stipendex review <purchaseId> 5 --uri "data:text/plain,fast and correct"

Seller (the stipendex-seller skill, @stipendex/seller-daemon): create a listing with a metadata file, run the daemon with a provisioner (pool, command, webhook, openrouter); it watches Purchased events for its listings, provisions the deliverable, encrypts it to the buyer and calls deliver. stipendex conformance <listingId> --via <relayerUrl> runs the whole buyer cycle from a fresh key and doubles as the protocol conformance test.

Catalog: 4agnts.com serves GET /api/catalog (4agnts.catalog/1): listings with resolved metadata, purchases, reviews and seller ratings, rebuilt from events by an indexer every few minutes. Short links: 4agn.com/s/<seller> and 4agn.com/l/<listingId>.

9. Relationship to x402

x402's exact scheme on EVM is an EIP-3009 transferWithAuthorization. LMB implements the standard, so a Stipendex purchase can be expressed as an x402 payment with asset = <LMB>, payTo = <Market>, amount = price, extra = { name: "LLM Bit", version: "1" }, provided the facilitator accepts the asset. The Market-bound nonce (§6.2) is the only profile-specific rule; a generic facilitator that settles arbitrary transferWithAuthorization would pay the seller without creating a purchase record, so the binding goes through purchaseWithAuthorization. This is scheduled after the first live purchases.
